    •  Hey now. There are some nice blue areas (4+ / 0-)

in Cheney, Pullman, and Pasco.  In fact, some of the most liberal Democrats in WA are in Pullman (for those who don't know, Cheney is EWU and Pullman is WSU).

Heck, OR Ds just elected our first state rep east of the Cascades since the 1990s timber wars last cycle.

Spokane is over half a million, an order and a half of magnitude bigger than Pullman.

            Hell, I'm a Coug myself.

But overall, the population of Eastern WA is largely Republican, a factor that has to be taken into account in WA state politics all the time.  Spokane is over half a million; Pullman is maybe 30K people, including students, faculty and local residents.

No one's trying to dis Pullmanites - just trying to educate folks who might be interested in the layout of how WA political demographics work out by region.

            •  There is always a danger in writing off an area (0+ / 0-)

which is why we had the 50 state strategy.  Let me throw in a few more cities in Whitman County that are good for Dems.  Albion, Palouse, Colton, Uniontown are all good although that is because of their bedroom community nature, but the city of Malden is also good and it is more of a bedroom community of Spokane.  Our State Speaker of the House, Rep. Lisa Brown, represents one of the strongest Democratic districts in the state and it is in the heart of Spokane.

That kinda surprises me. I grew up in Richland, right next door, and it's pretty conservative from what I've heard tell. (But I think it's where Jesus' General has his bunker, and if so he makes up for the lot of them.)

You and I are going to spend our sunset years telling our children's children what it was once like in America when 25% of the population was batshit insane.

        •  Tri Cities area is still pretty red. (0+ / 0-)

I wish Kos's electoral map were still available, but they went for McCain.

Another map from 2008 can be found here:

          •  here's WA Prez 2008 by county (0+ / 0-)

From the always-excellent WA SoS website.

            Benton County (Tri-Cities) went slightly</snark> for McCain-Palin ... 62% to 35%.

            •  Pasco is in Franklin County. (1+ / 0-)

Franklin went 57.65% McCain  40.48% Obama according to WA SoS.  There are also other areas in Eastern Washington that aren't as red but are offset by the conservative agribusiness.  Parts of Othello are good and the city of Ritzville in Adams county isn't too bad.  Clarkston and the city of Asotin were Democratic bastions not too long ago and still have good areas in Asotin County.
