  •  I wouldn't be so sure, 2010 is possible...... (0+ / 0-)

I wouldn't put it past Obama and Congress to go ahead and put repeal in the Defense Authorization bill or the Pentagon appropriations bill.

Public opinion has turned enough that there wouldn't be the same reaction as in 1993.  It's obvious the White House still is nervous otherwise, but I'm hoping, and I think there's a good chance that, the health care victory creates clearer heads and confidence now.  The military brass taking the lead on the messaging to prepare servicemembers and the public for the change really helps a lot, as people are loathe to speak in opposition to military brass on military matters.

I honestly think there wouldn't be any blowback from voters.  None at all.  From Congressional Republicans, yes, the mouth-breathing wingnuts and their talk radio and Faux News allies will freak, but even Republicans will be divided on the issue, both on the policy and the politics, and that's a good thing to do to them.

In a time of war, is that really the time to be asking whether we should be at war?...When it is over we should ask whether we should leave. -- Stephen Colbert
