  •  Ohhhhh! Of course! (0+ / 0-)

They weren't actually atheists at all! They were some other category concocted by the Hitchens tribe to avoid confronting the reality that religion is not in fact the source of all that is wrong in the world.

Sad to say, but I have to break it to you: Your shit does, in fact, stink.

but Atheism has nothing to do with the acts of Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot etc..

It is not a system of beliefs nor does it contain a worldview in itself.

The secular violence you are so ignorant of is caused by the same underlying structure as religious violence: authoritarianism, adherence to rigid doctrinal beliefs or dogma and totalitarianism.

Religion is not the problem. Secular violence and sectarian violence are not actually that different, as they both stem from

authoritarianism, adherence to rigid doctrinal beliefs or dogma and totalitarianism

        •  well then we agree (0+ / 0-)

and you did not understand what I had said initially.

it's not Atheism- it's oppressive government or it can be a very rigid ideology or religion.

Admittedly, people were stripped of their religion in Russia, but that was a "terrorist" tactic designed to take the most fundamental beliefs and comfort from a people, so that they would be without recourse.

In much the same way the Nazis dehumanized the Jewish people with arm bands and stripping them naked or shaving their heads so that they had no individual identity.

both religious or secular totalitarianism are inhumane, brutal and oppressive.

thnx for allowing me to define this, Jyrinx

as much as anyone. See my sig.

But that was not Jyrinx's point. It was a response to "I think i's really hard to justify such atrocities, and to think you're acting in the greater good when you commit them, without believing somehow that God is on your side."

So where's all the outrage against anti-atheist bigotry?
