I used to work for Prevue/TV Guide channel a long time ago. They could only fill up their wee morning slots with those annoying infomercials. One of their big problems was trying to get advertisers to pay top dollar for a portion of the screen. They felt they should get the whole screen not just the top half or top quarter.

In the advertising industry if you cannot command top dollar you only get bottom feeders. In the end it's all about the revenue stream so Prevue ended up expanding the number of hours they showed infomercials. Anyway that kind of cheap advertising is known as 'dollar a hollar'.

FYI. United Video owned the Prevue Channel. UVSG bought TV Guide the magazine and changed their name to TV Guide. I left the company before finalizing their merger with Gemstar.
