I mean, I guess I can see how that might be. Another blow to the idea of "intelligent design". You'd figure the females of the species would generally be built to a more robust standard and broader engineering tolerances, given that they're a lot less disposable than the males.

As a man, the whole reproductive thing is pretty straight forward: one happy salvo after another.

For women it's a bit more difficult. I once said to my wife, jokingly, to switch places with her in the next life, out of fairness, and she almost smacked me in the head.

      dearie.

If you take away the health costs associated with childbirth (which should not be solely allocated to women because, after all, we don't get pregnant on our own), I wonder if there really is any significant differential. Certainly, men are more prone to heart disease than women.

Your point about childbirth is well taken - its a join cost, although women have to do all the work, pretty much.

As for heart disease, women have been ignored in that area, but shouldn't be. It is the #1 killer of women too.

Plus, androgens are immunosuppressants. I bet that's related to longevity.

We have a much higher pain tolerance than you do, and we put up with a lot more shit. :-)

Seriously, I use more health care than my partner, but then again, I use more health care than the vast majority of Kossacks, no matter what their ages. Having a degenerative condition, a couple of chronic conditions, and a catastrophic condition will do that to you...
