Democratic legislation with a 59-41 majority.  There are ways to play political hardball to get a few crossover votes for cloture.  Is there something Scott Brown needs that would help him get re-elected in 2012?  Voting 100% in lockstep with McConnell isn't the way, especially on issues of basic human decency like unemployment insurance.

    •  60 votes isn't the issue, cloture alone is (1+ / 0-)

The problem here isn't getting 60 votes the problem is that they are requiring cloture votes even when they know there are well over 60 votes available! One senator objects and they have to tie up several days in the Senate going through the cloture procedure.... and they do this over and over again. This has never been done before. Unless the Democrats are perfect in planning and foreseeing the nonsense things get difficult. The Republicans have shown they are willing to hold up everything from defense spending to unemployment insurance just to slow down the Democrats and waste time.
