  •  I'm no stranger to the (10+ / 0-)

writing or posting of "the serious diary".

Pootie diaries absolutely have their place in this community.  They aren't intended as humor - they're intended as a place to share a common interest in a world that frequently is so divisive and difficult.  They are solace.

In my diary yesterday, it was quite interesting to discover just how many Kossacks are also animal lovers and animal rescuers.  If you think about it, it aligns quite logically with what seems to be our prevailing worldview - to have compassion and to care for the least among us and to compel our leaders to do the same.

There's a reason there aren't pootie diaries at Redstate - it's because those fuckers generally don't give a flying fuck about other people unless they are, in fact, currently unborn.  The pootie diaries here at Daily Kos embody a community and say a lot about the values of that community - caring, compassion, and empathy.

    Think about it.

    •  I will think about it (0+ / 0-)

      there- I thought about it.
Sarcasm off- god bless -em really

      •  I love the pootie diaries. (10+ / 0-)

I'm in my 40s, and I have an honors degree in Economics.  I work a professional job, and I volunteer with animal rescue.  I have four cats and I sing in a band.  I like to kickbox for exercise.

What I'm saying is that I have a diverse and (to me) interesting life.  The very same thing that makes me like a pootie diary, for example, is the thing that also gets me organizing a bunch of Kossacks at an anti-war demonstration and the same thing that gets me to hop on the Metro (I'm in the DC area) and go downtown to support marriage equality.  It's the same thing that had me on the ground for Webb in 2006 and saw me give up literally months of weekends to work on the ground for Obama and Democrats here in VA.

Your characterizations in your comments are that somehow people who like cats and enjoy pootie diaries are "sad".  You put yourself up there - whether you meant to or not - as somehow being above them.  Yet these are the same people who, if you (God forbid) were very sick, would all contribute money and sentiments to a Community Quilt to be sent to you.

The takeover of the rec list was a prank - pure and simple.  I thought it was funny only because it actually worked.  As I type this, the diarists who participated are requesting their diaries be unrec'd, which is appropriate.

But be very careful about shitting all over something that really embodies - at its core - what we all seem to be here for.  If you don't like the pootie diaries, I understand.  You can skip over them (I stay out of a whole bunch of other types of diaries for a similar reason).  But you really ought not to demean those who post and enjoy them.

There.  I'm done.  Just trying to explain the mentality - I've been here going on six years, and I've seen an awful lot.

        •  that's really great and all - (0+ / 0-)

I'm all for helping animals- but hey- time for some honesty
do you talk to your cats as if they understand what you are saying?
          thats pretty silly, isn't it?
Do you ever get e-mails that are bad photoshoped attempts at humor that you KNOW the sender did not make?
          Pretty lame huh?

          all Im saying is 1+1=2

by the way- my favorite track is "dont have to tell you"

          •  Since you asked, (7+ / 0-)

I do.  I don't strictly think they understand English, but they know their names and they understand my inflection.  My sweet Grady (who died last year at the age of 19) would often be the only living thing present when I was watching news in the morning during the Democratic primaries and election in 2008.  I would turn and say "Can you BELIEVE THAT SHIT??!!" to him.  Heh.  He would look at me like - "Why are you yelling?"  But at least he was there.  :)

And HEY - thanks.  And yep, that's me singing it.  That song was actually written for me to sing specifically, which was pretty awesome.  :)

            •  isnt that the great thing about Kos (0+ / 0-)
