    Personally, I "knew" marijuana laws were going to start changing back when the market crashed in 2008.  Virtually every state was reporting a budgetary crisis, along with the record-setting deficit on the federal level.  There was simply no way America could continue to afford the ongoing and completely ineffectual "War on Drugs".

    Marijuana, about the least dangerous recreational ingestible on Earth was bound to lead the wave of change in this area.  So at least one trend in American politics is a joy to watch. Huzzah!

      There's no good reason to continue the prohibition of marijuana, but it can be a political third rail. You raise a good point, with the budget problems, people are having a to take a good look whether it is really worth the money, and that shuts the power off on the third rail.
