I feel less safe, like I need a gun to protect me against gun-lover of all political persuasions.

If wanting the country to succeed is wrong, I don't want to be right.

    •  Why? (6+ / 0-)

Statistics prove that people with carry permits cause less crime than LEOs do (per Florida statistics anyway.)

We need another Huey P. Long and federal funding for abortion. -9.00, -4.05

millions of other legal gun owners out there.

It's criminals with guns who cause the problems.

I'll just about guarantee you anyone you see openly carrying a weapon is legal and you're safe around them as anywhere.

it's rather off topic but I finally dusted off my GPS files from a while back, it was the Brawley Wash that I was trying to describe in our Dkos conversation back in February.

Sorry if this is out of the blue, I have a weird eidetic-ish memory and it was jogged when I was loading way-points today.

is just down Ajo/86 a little further. Drop me a line when you're in town and we'll hit the silhouette range.

That should be a decent collecting area as all the washes in the area drain there. Up the hill however is so much nicer. This was a very geologically active area and we have all different kinds of mineral deposits all over the Sierritas as well as some really nice rock formations. Lots of gold supposedly, I'm tempted to pan my own washes. I've sure got enough black sand.......

There was a really nice vein of fluorite just a few miles away on state trust land but someone got greedy and mined it out all at once. People had been collecting there forever and one greedy bastard had to take the whole vein.....Grrrr..... And not even like it was gem quality or anything though I do have a couple of purple chunks that are noticeably harder with better clarity than the rest.

send me an email (address is in my DK profile) to coordinate, target shooting sounds like a good time.  I haven't been to a range for quite a while.

            •  Will do, we have a great range too, you'll love (3+ / 0-)

it. The Tucson Rifle Club has a great facility. check out the photos of the setup. We have everything from a 1000m range to Action ranges to 3 silhouette ,rifle, pistol, and smallbore as well as a couple public ranges, a black powder range even full auto and 50 bmg. The local pd's as well as the BP even train there.

The best part, it's only 60 dollars a year for a membership that allows full access to all the ranges as well as free range fees if shooting in any of the different comps and shoots they hold there.

I just checked out the specifics of silhouette shooting, it looks like a cool sport but after 20 or so years without firing a pistol I'd be lucky to be able to (using one of my Dad's sayings) "hit a bull in the ass with a scoop shovel" at 50 feet, let alone 50 yards.  I'll be a lot better off with a basic level of target shooting.

[and for any twitchy math aficionados out there, no, I don't carry, though I do occasionally fix computers and I support the right to do both]

that's the nice part of that range is as a member you can shoot paper at any of the ranges. That way there's less people and more shade and comfort.

My favorite range at the club is the pistol sill. range. It's nice and peaceful back there.....
