  •  The Civil War was an armed revolt against (4+ / 0-)

the lawful government of the United States ..

It was a case of the South losing at the ballot box, so  Southern people opened the bullet box....(just like some tea-baggers are threatening to do today)

Proclamations, declarations, and statements by political leaders that attempt to portray the Confederacy as a 'defense of their homes' instead of an armed rebellion should not be tolerated but instead condemned loudly and strongly ...

The Civil War caused the death of many people ..it caused horrible racial divisions .. it is a sad sad period in our nation's history ..so is the aftermath of that war .. but since the war ended the South launched a campaign to portray itself as the poor persecuted victim of a horrible war..

and it won that publicity war ...

Give your heart a real workout! Love your enemies!

One of my personal favorite bizarro experiences in Southern revisionism was visiting the Cyclorama in Atlanta, and having the narrator explain that the Confederate Army "valiantly fell back" when confronted with Sherman's offensive.

They didn't "retreat", they "valiantly fell back".

      Funny and sad, that.
