    •  Less than Jersey Shore (5 million btw). (8+ / 0-)

The only reason Fox News and the other networks are important because of the influence on law makers.

Politicians don't understand that most people in this country don't feed into this anymore, most people do not buy newspapers.

We help Fox, Beck, Palin and others because we spend so much energy pushing back against them.

Makes them seem much more powerful than they really are....

          we can't just ignore them

          •  Correct. It would be foolish to ignore them. (7+ / 0-)

We are not advancing Beck's interests by discussing him here. It will have zero impact on his ratings or reputation. But it may help spread the truth about him to others in the media.

I want to thank Jed for this analysis (and for the raw numbers, which I intend to make use of). It helps to put the so-called Beck phenomenon in perspective. Fox News still has lower ratings than SpongeBob SquarePants and they reach barely 1% of the television audience.

The Glenn Beck Advertiser Boycott Must Be Working

The way you can tell if a protest is effective is when the target of the action can’t stop complaining about it. For two days in a row, Glenn Beck has devoted valuable airtime to castigating the proponents of an advertiser boycott that began last year in response to Beck calling President Obama a racist with "a deep-seated hatred of white people."

Beck is so anxiety-ridden that he is accusing the White House of orchestrating the boycott and comparing himself to the victims of Nazi atrocities.

unchallenged is almost like an affirmation.  He does have a microphone.  Lies not debunked for so long, those receiving the garbage start believing the crap.

Palin, Bachmann, Foxx and their minions, those I could careless if their crap are left on the floor.  Most objective Americans are aware of their crap.

Radio and TV have a way of making a believer out of low information people.

Way back when, an actor on the radio, told his audience that the world was coming to an end, and was believed.  Not much has changed since then.  I know that I am being too simplistic, still.  I still hear people say, but I saw it on TV.  I heard it on the radio.

          •  I sort of agree with the disagreement (with me).. (1+ / 0-)

But I wonder if we don't help feed the circus.

At the minimum I wonder if we shouldn't spend more of our energy keeping our Congressional majorities, etc.

coverage that Palin, Bachmann, Tea Party and Repub Party are getting. There is always some "event" going on. CPAC, Tea Party Express tour, April 15th tax protest, April 19th gun nuts, SLC starting this week - on and on ad nauseum. Every day, the right wingers are getting free air time. IMHO, I think it's part of the overall RW strategy to keep moving the Overton window as far right as possible. If this is all people see on TV, then that's the message they continue to hear and accept.

Have you seen/heard of ANY Dem/Progressive activities over the Congressional break?  Crickets.

silence while injustice occur are just as culpable. If we keep quiet while Beck, Rush, Savage, Fox and the rest of the 1300 hate talkers spew their untruths unchallenged, we have seceded the nation to their type of ideology.

We must call it and denounce, mock and confront their hate.

to push back when the MSM keeps giving them so much airtime and attention.
If the pundits will stop pandering and promoting them we can stop fighting back.

Maybe he can suggest ol' Larry's name for HHS Sec'y, Larry being the perfect poster child for Teabagger health.

    •  "I could give a flying crap about the political (7+ / 0-)

process." Making money, on the other hand, is to be taken very seriously, and controversy is its own coinage. "We're an entertainment company," says Beck

"I still say a church steeple with a lightning rod on top shows a lack of confidence."
