yes, I get the jokes, etc. but I can understand the business assumptions that the older parishioners would make this their local pharmacy, and since the elderly need more meds..  I think the lack of cigs and make-up is weird, but it appears they did sell alcohol.

Anyway, I do wonder what else was wrong with this business. Did it not accept medicare? Or what.

They also have less disposable income, and large chains can bargain for lower prices on meds than independents can.

It can be argued that paying $314 for scripts at a Catholic pharmacy as opposed to $40 at Walgreen's, K-mart or Wal-Mart is a sin against the Fifth Commandment,  if the $274 is taken from expenditures that protect a senior citizen's life and health.

you can pick up your milk, lunch meat, and toilet bowl cleaner at the same time?

I hate to say it, but the pharmacies that are located inside a Mart-Mart or Grocery Store are more likely to get my business than a neighborhood pharmacy that is only a pharmacy.

A Wall Street "bonus" should not be more than what my house is currently worth.

First of all, pharmacies do not make money on prescriptions. Barely break even is the goal. This is why most pharmacies have the "pharmacy" department in the back of the store...the only way we make money is if you buy other shit.

Second of all...guess which section of that "other shit" has one of the highest gross margins in the store? That's right...cosmetics.

The entire business model depends on the sale of cosmetics (and shaving razors, and OTC Advil, and the like) to make money. The reason to have the pharmacy department is not to make money, it's to get people's asses through the front door. The place where you bring your prescriptions becomes "your drug store" and that turns into the place where you buy your makeup and razor blades and Advil.
