      They don't, for the most part, care about long term questions. Just appearances. The GOP would make a stink regardless, and so, the real issue for me is who would begin to rebalance the court towards a left of center rather than far right activist perspective. People should be thinking of brilliant intellecutal counterweight types who will balance the far right wing lurch of the court that wrote Citizens United, the recent civil rights cases, recent economic cases, etc. Instead, they are thinking, once again, my guess is of the politics for the president. My view is that we need someone who long after the president is out of office will be ensuring that the court does not  lurch further reactionary as the Roberts court is. I also think he needs to be looking for a left leaning activist without a huge record, a stealth choice like Roberts.
