Hanabusa? It's not like he's more capable of holding the seat than she would be. It is, after all, a Democratic seat.

This seat will have a regular election in November, right? I know what Hawaii election rules allow, but one would think there would have/could have been a way for Hawaiian activists in the district to weigh in and declare one of these candidates the "official standard bearer" and tell the other one to back off.

The cynic in me is whispering that the "lesson" DCCC learned from Coakley is to avoid female candidates. Preparing to fight the previous war rarely yields the desired result. Ask the French about the Maginot Line...

      •  Ok, I posted a reply here (0+ / 0-)

and I dont think it worked, so sorry if this double posts. I dont think gender has anything to do with. HI's other rep is a woman, Mazie Hirono, as is the governor. Although I dont agree with it, I think the move is because Hanabusa is in third place, albeit by a small margin.

      •  Another Emily's List candidate (0+ / 0-)

I have reached a point where I think Emily's List hurts Democrats. Their priority is to have women who are pure on choice, not to help Democrats win seats or to get the best candidate.  EL has raised a lot of money for Hanabusa.

when he ran against Akaka in 2006 for the Senate he ran to the right and said some things that left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths.  I'm not clear why DCCC is backing Case unless this is because he served in Washington for four years from HI-02 and is part of the Washbag Old Boy network.  Hanabusa is presently Majority Leader of the Hawaii Senate and not Washington connected except through Hawaii Senators Inoye and Akaka who aren't exactly under the control of Rahm Emmanuel.  If elected Hanabusa would likely join the progressive caucus along with Mazie Hirono of HI-02.  Case ran against Hirono in the Dem Governor primary in 2002 (Hirono won and lost to Lingle in the general).  There's lots of history floating around here.  Case has touted himself as running against the Hawaii Dem machine which has controlled Hawaiian politics for the last 40+ years.

    •  The Hawaii situation stinks (3+ / 0-)

First Abercrombie resigns mid-term -- possibly costing the opportunity to put the public option in health care reform.  And then the DCCC wilts over supporting a liberal in a safe Democratic seat.

What's going on here?  Is it really getting to the point that we have to start jumping through hoops by steering donations to safe seat progressives like Ellison and Grijalva for them to fund the appropriate races?

I frankly think it this would put it in that territory.

    •  Ed Case is the asshole (0+ / 0-)

who ran against a sitting Senator before he was ready to retire.

He is too big for his britches, and isn't really a democrat (he's a major DINO).

I think the DCCC is deathly afraid of being called liberal, they seem to be suffering from BWS and a complete lack of spine.  They are quickly becoming like the DLC.
