    are correct.  Few of my U.S. History students kept up with current events.  I began a "News Bulletin" area on my whiteboard each day with some of the previous day's headlines.  Once I got the students used to it, they began to ask me what was important in the news.  Some of them began reading newspapers and would come in the following day and try to stump me.  They were quite surprised how well informed I was.  What I was trying to do was get them to focus their minds on what goes on in the world.  I retired in 2009.  Earlier this week one of my students sent me an email saying that he missed me, and that the school was not the same without me there.  It made me feel good that he felt my efforts to educate them beyond the textbook were important.
