    fact that we African Americans are continually subjected to these types of stereotypes to undermine us as not being worthy, intelligent, capable, industrious, etc.  It can be covert or overt.  Newt's comments about the president being a basketball player, Palin's comments about not needing a constitutional law professor but a CIC are only 2 example of how this game is played.  These are smears meant to send a message of "You people need to stay in your place."  Our "place" is wherever we want to be based on our intelligence and hardwork, and to imply otherwise is to deny us our rights as contributing members of this society.
