  •  Well, my understanding (7+ / 0-)

is Reps & Senators often DO vote for bills they don't sponsor. But, sponsorship is a way of putting your position strongly on the record.

But there are good reason to forgive a Rep for not sponsoring. Sen. Gillibrand when she was in the House favored repeal, but didn't sponsor the bill. But she was  in a heavily Republican district, and going so strongly on the record could have been a drag for her keeping the seat.

It's a tough call to make, when to call pols out for timid support and when not to.

And it's not, right now, the same for McCaskill. Gillibrand could be afforded a pass because the vote wasn't imminent and regardless, the sponsorship support in the House was strong enough to show the bill's viability.

But McCaskill is a very key vote. And any honest look at the bill's sponsorship tells us repeal is not viable right now.

So, we could afford to give Gillibrand a pass back then, but we can't afford that now for Mc. She NEEDS to step up. The battle lines are becoming stark. If she doesn't, it's sure to fail.
