  •  I hope that the Supreme Court ivory tower (10+ / 0-)

gets breached with a gay justice.

Then very day the prejudiced stereotypes in the minds of the conservative justices will have to deal with the reality that gays are human beings too.

If cats could blog.... they wouldn't.

    •  God knows those robes... (0+ / 0-)

      •  Rehnquist's amazing technicolor robe (0+ / 0-)

As I recall, Rehnquist was a big fan of musicals and was inspired to by one of them to add some flair to his robe. Until then the Chief and Associate Justices all wore the same outfits. Roberts isn't a flair kind of guy so he went back to the original robe style when he took over.
Other random Rehnquist fact: He loved getting high and was frequently observed to be noticeably intoxicated while on the job. His habit got so bad he had to be hospitalized at least once because of it.

I first read that as "I hope that the Supreme Court ivory tower gets breached with gay justice."

      My thought process:

      1. Gay justice? That's kind of melodramatic, isn't it?
      1. Actually, gay justice is a pretty hilariously awesome phrase.
      1. Wait, no, it's probably an upcoming Fox reality show, forget it.

Then I re-read what you actually wrote. I can't decide if I'm relieved or disappointed. ;)

    •  Whereas a law degree is NOT (9+ / 0-)

required to sit on the Supreme Court, nor is prior judging experience, and

Whereas a sharp mind, nimble wits and a profound memory are definitely assets for the job, and

Whereas, if the Supreme Court REALLY wants to be a place of Justice, and justice can be defined as that place where law, wisdom, and mercy intersect and balance (thereby excluding Scalia on at least 2 counts), and

Whereas it would be a Good Thing is the High Court reflected America along gender, racial, orientation grounds, be it therefore

RESOLVED, that the only logical choice at this point for the US Supreme Court vacancy is

      .....Rachel Maddow!

Just sayin'. (Plus, it would give Scott Brown a big sigh of relief to vote for her confirmation and keep her out of the MA Senate race.)

      Shalom.
