those of you who are in coal country have read the headline President Obama has ordered a review before.

Don't let this story disappear. I know Obama has ordered a review, but that doesn't mean anything will get done, those of us in coal country have read that headline before.

Kentucky and West Virginia have both been voting in Republicans in the last several years, voting in the very  people who always wink at corporations and let them know they will not enforce regulations against them and that they will repeal those that they can, it is the Republican way. Lax enforcement is one of their campaign themes and yet miners in recent years have flocked to the Republican party. That's like the chickens electing Colonel Sanders.

I'm asking you to believe. Not in my ability to bring about real change in Washington...I'm asking you to believe in yours. - Barack Obama

Here being South-eastern Kentucky, every time a mine closes the first thing you hear is it is the Dems and the EPA "taking the jobs" or blah blah. Republicans in this area use that to attack dems, even when there is no connection whatsoever between them or the EPA and the closings.

Believe me, I would gladly elect more dems for the national scene from our state. But coal is one of the hurdles that keeps hurting them.

A lie is a lie even if everyone believes it. The truth is the truth even if no one believes it.-- Anon.

when Reagan broke labor, the formerly Democratic miners switched parties. That has never made sense to me.  How much of this do you think is based upon the numbers of minorities in the Democratic Party?

...there are always a few knothead Republicans in any crowd, but the UMWA miners I worked with for 24 years were by-and-large Democrats.
