    ...just a right wing meme that FDR was a reluctant progressive at first. It took him about a 100 days--which isn't very long--to get his progressive legs under him.

    Eleanor was the real progressive and insisted he bring in Harry Hopkins, the social worker, and then the New Deal proper unfolded. Sort of like bringing in Jim Hightower I think

    I'm doing this from memory, and am not sure I've got all my sequences perfectly, but I don't believe any disrespect for FDR is intended when parallels are looked for in his learning curve. He began more centrist, more tentative--but grew into the great New Dealer.
