  •  They're hardly Libertarians (11+ / 0-)

They're just rebranded Pat Buchanan supporters.

"Take back my country" means "there's a black guy in the Oval Office and he's not with the maintenance crew".

    •  Buchanan is totally a (9+ / 0-)

Libertarian :D  Buchanan is a racist prick, as are many Libertarians/Tea Partiers, but he's not a big fan of the evangelical right.

Month by month. (Hope to see you on Twitter)

too the position that Rs and Conservatives were not no-government Libertarians but actually authoritarians who wanted to rule all for the benefit of businesses and the oligarchy that runs them, corporatism and Wall Street embodied to reduce all other citizens to voiceless commodities who alone should pay taxes to get the bills paid that the corporatists would not pay but wanted done. Last year, Ron Paul was technically a Republican but commanded no respect whatever in that party and his campaign was thought a distraction and a nuisance and  Bob Barr much the same.

These are in fact two different strains of thought which deserve the minimal respect of being treated separately, rather than just used to create a second truly offensive rebranding of the Ls to make them and the Cs one and the same when they are not. If the NYT survey is correct, the Tea folk are in fact a right wing of Conservatives, not Liberatarians at all, as evidenced by their hardly a less-government position on abortion, foreign affairs, Social Security and Medicare, and a few other things.
