  •  I think he is saying that (14+ / 0-)

Democrats, once elected, often turn from their base in an effort not to offend republicans.  Hence, we don't trust the democrats once they are in power, because we are used to them capitulating.

    •  That was my point (7+ / 0-)

Democratic voters have been jerked around by their party for so long that they can't trust the government.  Sorry if I was not clear.

    •  That's pretty much my opinion. (2+ / 0-)

There are a few key members of Congress and bureacrats I generally trust to be reasonable, thoughtful legislators and administrators interested in moving the country forward.  The rest I am convinced are either diehard obstructionists, rabble-rousing polemicists at heart, irretrievably stupid and/or venal, greedy, bought off or wholly owned subsidiaries of major corporations or regional business interests, or some combination thereof.  And I'm being kind.

Trust the government as a whole, when I know how many Bushies burrowed into mid-level bureaucratic positions?  When the federal judiciary has been packed with reactionary, patriarchal, pro-business twits?  When it seems like 95% of the Republican elected officials started spewing mindless teabagger garbage like they were broken sewer lines?  Not on your life.
