    has to do with the role of government in one's personal and social life. You either tend to believe that the government exists as a productive force that serves the needs of the public in terms of solving problems, providing solutions, and taking care of the general welfare of the public (isn't there something about the general welfare in the Constitution?? he he), or you believe that the government should get out of your way so you can do whatever you want while still "protecting" you as an individual. One view is a social contract the other is a private contract. Personally, I'll take the social contract any time over the private one.

      Having a govt. that promotes the general welfare is a good thing.

      Having a govt. that allows you the freedom to live as you choose is also a good thing.

        You need the balance between the tow, but people are refusing to compromise.
