    are hardly simple examples of Marxism, hence the misunderstanding of what you meant by "the left" when connecting "the left" and "Marxism." The former USSR was a tortured perversion of what they themselves referred to as Marxism-Leninism, and China is a highly complex Maoist interpretation of Marx with some very savvy adaptations to deal with international capital grafted onto it.

    But, I agree, the former USSR and China are good examples of closed epistemic communities arguably occupying some part of "the left."
