    It seems to me that geology has become a bit more complicated since I was in high school. As expected.

    It sounds like you have some knowledge in the area, so I encourage you to read the source material. The first geologist I showed this stuff to had the same reaction ("pseudoscience") until she looked at the articles to see what was being said before the journalists translated it into pop-sci. Then she recognized what they were suggesting and now I'm being offered a stack of articles to back them up.
