  •  2 problems with the statement (beyond it's (11+ / 0-)

    absolute stupidity.)

Yes people bartered things for medical care.  They didn't get a lot of medical care and they died like flies.

Also, back in those days people didn't have a purely cash based economy.  Farmers could get by sometimes by bartering services and food.  But those days have long passed; our economy is totally cashed based now.

    Wow! Lowden is REALLY stupid.

money, because they knew the patient was broke. Now adays the doctors just let you die. They screen you out via the front desk.

"here's some pain meds and here's a referral to a specialist who won'nt accept you even with insurance until you can pay $8K up front."

Doctors didn't used to be so greedy, they used to live in the community they treated. Now it's not another side of town it's a different town, with a friggin gate.

People used to live in smaller houses. One emergency room visit costs more than what I could paint a 1950s house for.

The woman has a totaly valid point. No doctor on this web site or that I've ever talked to can answer the question as to why they don't have upfront pricing. A publicly available list of prices for services just like they do everywhere else in the world where people pay for service at the time they get it.

We just fought a long hard fight for health care, and it will be 4 years before most people see any relief. In laughing at that lady you're laughing at the people too poor to get care for another 4 years. They still face the dilema of the doc who  won't treat them.

People in America are pissed off, y'all make your jokes about that lady Wuzername all you want. Carefull or she'll get the last laugh.

is the one who's laughing at them (us) -- and saying, "let them eat cake."

They still face the dilema of the doc who  won't treat them.

Orthodontist for full braces and met my wife's boss with his son who was there for a much more limited set of braces. He was wearing a probably 500 dollar suit (and this was 15 years ago) and I came from my lab in plaid shirt and jeans. My wife said the price he said he paid was about twice of what the Dentist quoted for us.

        •  I agree. Posting prices would be a great start. (3+ / 0-)

That is where the savings would start on the dr/physician side of things would begin. I'm amazed and appalled at the prices we've been charged at the new dr's office. And I say "we" as we are paying that 16K/yr to Wellpoint and they're paying the physicians network for that fancy ass office they built 3 years ago. How come dr's offices need to be so fancy? eh?

        •  and that is as it should be. (0+ / 0-)

The boss should pay twice what the worker pays for his medical treatment.  That allows the orthodontist to cut a deal for his financially marginal patients while paying off his college debt, his cardiologist, and reconstituting his retirement fund.

CEO's of dental health insurance companies should pay many many times more, since they get a huge rebate through their taxes on the orthodontist.
