DC Superior Court judges are no different from any other big city judges.  The only reason that the President has to nominate them and the Senate has to confirm them is due to the unique view that the Constitution has regarding the District of Columbia.

True, DC Superior Court is considered an excellent "training ground" for the federal bench, and the all-important DC Circuit especially.  Still, these judges usually have to deal with mundane big city matters such as civil suits, landlord and tenant actions and your garden variety criminal cases.

It's pretty stupid that GOP Senators would be holding up nominations of big city judges.

She got confirmed with 2/3 of the Senate voting. Confirmation only requires a bare majority (once you get past the 60-person filibuster potential and, apparently, the 1-person secret hold filibuster).

      She can't be too controversial.
