      Different example. Although the press conference against Toshiba where nine members of Congress smashed a Toshiba radio with sledgehammers on the Capitol steps happened in 1987 (years after the Vincent Chin case) and was intended to protest equipment sales to the Soviets rather than auto imports, the violent imagery shocked people in Japan and left a bad taste.
