is that nobody who matters has said a word about a criminal investigation of Wall Street. I suppose that means our "lawmakers" made "laws" that will let these crooks go Scot-free. Or that with all this coming to light, they're doing that right now. I'll be amazed if one of those two isn't exactly the case.

these congressional investigations can help build the case for criminal referrals to justice. I wouldn't be at all surprised if that was the outcome.

        •  Congress is acting like the hierarchy of (0+ / 0-)

the Catholic Church in the way they have failed to truly, truly, truly address the problems of crime amongst their own.  Congress will think it's enough just to expose Wall Streeters and give them the index finger over index finger shame-shame sign and call it a day.  After all, those talented schemers need to remain in place to generate campaign funds.  It is a charade.

          •  I think the analogy to the Vatican and minions is (0+ / 0-)

right on, in a fundamental way. Why is nobody saying what looks to be so obvious if you add up all the pieces? The entire organizational chart of the Catholic hierarchy has been, over a couple of centuries, "regulatorily captured" by predatory pedophiles and turned into a kind of "vesting room Mafia" to provide a safe place and continuous source of prey for people with that bent. The institution does all that waving of censers and tenor trilling just to blow smoke over the real stuff that goes on. The difference between the image of the Sacred Mother Church with its sacraments and pretensions to bringing the people to God, and the reality of young people being fucked and sucked by guys in robes, where the loyal believers now get to make up for the peccadilloes of the pariah priests and the moral bankruptcy of their protecting Capos by closing their parish churches, their spiritual homes, and selling 'em into a down market. And meeting the margin calls of the Vatican for more tithes to pay the hush money, the bribes, the bail and the settlements and judgments and penalties. The Padres used to get off burning "heretics" -- Maybe an auto-da-fe of a pile of kid-rapers would have a salubrious effect on the salacious SOBs.

And chee, how's about Congress and the Fed governors and the heads of all the big "financial industry" monstrosities all pulling the same kind of clubbiness together? You know how the staging is in those "legislative fact-finding" hearings, where like you say there's a serious round, about 2 news cycles' worth, of tsk-tsking and some really tough ignorant questioning by a couple of congresspeople and some palliative balm applied to the egos of the subpoenaed by other reps currying the favor of a "donation" or a post-non-retention job.

Am I the only person frustrated that the general sense of outrage building to simple rage with 1789 overtones is so foolishly being manipulated into cannon fire at all the wrong targets?
