  •  It is not up to the DSCC (6+ / 0-)

to pick winners in Democratic primaries.  I think this is really because Brunner was told by Bob Menendez to drop out of the primary, Brunner refused, and Menendez is doubling down.  And why is the DSCC throwing money into this race in favor of Fisher?  They are spending money that should be saved for the general election.

They really should be saving this money for whomever emerges from the primary, not to try to dictate the result.

    •  The voters will pick the winer (0+ / 0-)

If Fisher wins the primary, take it up with the voters of OH. They are the ones with the final say. If Brunner is who they want she'll win the primary.

      •  The DSCC is trying to influence the voters (2+ / 0-)

so they aren't really deciding on their own.

They are the ones who pull the lever. They have their own minds and make their own decisions. It's not like the DSCC is putting a gun to their heads and casting a magic spell to make them vote for Fisher.

Brunner has won statewide before. The voters in the state know her. If she can't win the primary then that's her fault.

          •  That's the EXACT argument that's raised... (4+ / 0-)

...to defend Citizens United: it's not like those millions of corporate dollars are actually going to buy votes or anything, just to influence voters to whatever end, and if the other guy can't compete against a stacked deck, then s/he must not have been that good a candidate.

Wow, I didn't know that voters decided elections.  Of course, these voters are not influenced by television ads or bright shiny objects or anything.

Look the point is why is the DSCC telling people in Ohio who to vote for in a primary?  Don't they have better uses for their money, like, I dunno, saving it to support the person the Democratic voters nominate?

If you want to pretend that this is about the DSCC propping up a flawed candidate who is circling the drain, go right ahead.  But you're not going to convince many people in Ohio that's what's going on.

    •  At this stage in the process I'd agree (0+ / 0-)
But part of the job of the DCCC and DSCC is candidate recruitment. It's mot a good sales pitch to say, "If you win the primary we'll back you. Until then, you're on your own."
