wanna have some fun? call 602-364-3700: that's the arizona board of tourism. I just called an explained that I'm not bringing my family of five on vacation there this year. I told them my family's heritage is latino, and that with my black hair and brown skin, I don't feel safe in Arizona. Furthermore, i wasn't going to risk my children's well-being by taking them somewhere where they might be separated from their parents by over-zealous cops.

yes, i know i don't have a family of five, and i'm not Latino, but I figure every call they get demoralizes them.
what an embarrassment. even better, tell 'em you've decided to go to Mexico instead.

i was very polite with the guy on the other end of the phone, using my best concerned-kind-of-sad-dad voice.  in response the guy said "thanks for your OPINION" in a tone more suited for "fuck you very much", and slammed down the receiver.

try it yourself!  I went the "if you have a rotary phone sty on the line" route.

A friend of a friend is a corporate event planner: she's calling later today to let Arizona know that she's going to suggest the Big Pharma clients she works for have their convention somewhere that isn't Arizona.  So that's another call you can make.

Juts be polite: that's the key. because when the person on the other end flips out, you know it's because of the substance of your message, not the delivery.
