is why so many here think that we need to be more lax on immigration checks than the rest of the world.  Most other countries require all foreigners to keep documentation on them at all times and no one here is comparing them to Nazi Germany.

doesn't have the same legal system we do.

Innocent til proven guilty and no unreasonable search and seizures and a few other fairly integral parts of our legal system simply don't fit well with this law.

      Also

Most other countries require all foreigners to keep documentation on them at all times

This law requires citizens to keep documentation on them at all times, not foreigners.  Foreigners are already expected to be carrying passports, visas, etc.

It requires legal immigrants and citizens to carry these papers, and subjects them to checks of those papers by the police.  These checks are almost certainly going to be restricted to the nearly 1/3 of Arizonans who are Hispanic, the vast majority of whom are citizens.

That's racist, it violates the 4th amendment, and numerous civil rights laws.

And that's just one of the fucked up provisions in the bill.

Trust me on this.  I work in the Middle East and we often advise refugees to head for Europe rather than the US.

For example, one of my favorites is that Mexico has much tougher laws on illegal immigration than the US: that immigrants are routinely tossed in Jail. First of all, illegal immigration was decriminalized in Mexico several years ago and most people who are caught are simply deported..and the US itself has people in immigration detention, some for years.
