    Do away with the initiative process.

      Prop 13 screwed California.

      Props 66 and 67 saved Oregon, doing what the politicians didn't have the guts to do.

      There is good and bad...But I like direct democracy.

      It is curious to see the periodical disuse and perishing of means and machinery, which were introduced with loud laudation a few years or centuries before. -RWE

        But you have to keep the initiative from becoming the plaything of rich cranks (or worse) rather than a useful tool for the people.  Forbidding paid (directly or otherwise) signature gathering would help with that, I think.

      was passed through initiative petition...growth management, banning gill nets, banning factory hog farms (the fabled "pregnant pigs" amendment)...

      Of course, it would be better if people would just elect decent legislators...no one seems to have figured out how to do that here.
