not all of those 92,000 were Obama voters. there had to be a good portion of people that usually vote republican or had voted for McCain/Palin in that crowd. and if they came to the event with Faux fueled nonsense in their heads, at least a few of them got something very different than what they expected. and a few of those got that "ah ha!" moment a lot of got when he spoke at the 2004 convention. those small conversions are what I am talking about. a few at a time until you have a bunch of them telling their friends "i may not agree with everything he's trying to do, but I want THAT guy to be our president for as long as he can."

    •  Well, that's all pretty speculative. (1+ / 0-)

    •  And secondly, he spoke at the (0+ / 0-)

Democratic Convention in 2004. How many Republicans watched that? I did watch the 2008 Repub Convention when Sarah Palin was nominated and her speech (ugh), but never before nor in future. Certainly Obama blew away the Democrats who had never heard of him before, I being one of those. But Republicans? Sorry, I'm not convinced. However, I don't want to deflate your optimism, you could be right. But your arguments are opinion, and not fact, so I remain unswayed for now.

of course converting the hard core is different. and 2004 was a different time. those who were fully on board with the GOP then were not looking for a plausible president in the Democratic convention. but when 2012 roles around, some of them and a lot of the indies will be listening to the type of case the President made yesterday. when he's fully engaged in Presidential politics, it will get covered and he will be heard.

to counter it, the GOP can only offer the sneer on its face. when they have to make a decision between that and Obama message only the hard core GOPers will chose the former.
