  •  The truly sad thing is (12+ / 0-)

that the only safe place left for anyone's savings is an old-fashioned, sensible certificate of deposit at a local credit union.  And for those who do not have the luxury of one in their community, Mason jars of cash buried in the backyard have to be seriously contemplated.  When even the precious metals market is gamed to unreliability, there is nothing else to do.

Businesses, from large corporations to one-person service shops, need cash to operate.  If the entire financial sector is this unreliable, the ability of businesses of all sizes to grow and thrive simply shrivels.  Until these problems are resolved to the benefit of the citizenry, we will continue to see the real economy unwind further, and maybe even faster.

How long will it be before we resemble Argentina a few years ago?

    •  May convert half my savings to precious metals. (0+ / 0-)

Converted remaining savings to cash and CD months ago. I'm looking at ways of minimizing the risk of getting taken but I may just follow your suggestion. It certainly sounds like less of a headache.

Practically speaking, Augustus Caesar was much better than Julius Caesar. Morally? Not so much. -neroden
