    The ugly truth is that many of them don't care if people end up bankrupt, financially ruined, permanently disabled, or dead. To them it doesn't matter since many of them in their mind are "those people"--i.e., "lazy, irresponsible people on welfare who don't work and made unhealthy and irresponsible choices".

    Also many of them are fortunate enough to have been in good health through most of their lives or to have had good insurance that has covered them when they needed it to. They can't comprehend that their insurance could fail them eventually and they'd end up with bills they couldn't afford.

    What would be interesting is for someone to do a documentary pretending to be a low-income uninsured person trying to get medical care. I would love for someone to pretend to be ill and have to navigate through the healthcare system as an uninsured person.
