...every year as well, and yet people keep getting on airplanes. Which, by the way, require fuel.

For the record, I should state here that after I got past my initial negative visceral reaction to the announcement awhile back of the opening of new offshore drilling space, I saw it as a rather wise political move. After all, the oil industry already has leases on shit-tons of underwater drilling locations that they've never come close to drilling. Hell, they've barely even been explored.  Plus, it cut the "drill here" crowd off at the knees.

in flying is not quite the same thing as self regulation by a for profit with a responsibility to husband the common ecological resources of twenty or thirty nations, is it? Seems like there is a difference of scale and responsibility there.

I would also take exception to the idea that acceptance of the drill here drill now concept in any way cuts off the rationales of its' fans. What does it do that is not effectively addressed by the idea that oil conglomerates already have tons of leases that they have yet to explore? This has just been another example of the fine art of pre-capitulation by corporatist Democrats.

        ...and self regulation.

I could continue this discussion, but your use of the lazy "corporatist" tag pretty much shuts things down. It seems to have become the latest in a long line of Daily Kos catchwords/phrases that render further discussion senseless.

had you been listening to those who were willing to define it for you twenty years ago. It might not seem like a conversation ender had you ever taken the time to understand it. I think it is a good sign that the word has become common on places like DK. Maybe in a few years the concept will actually have an effect upon the voting habits of the electorate.

          One can always dream.
