    While I'm 100% in favor of curtailing the Pentagon's purchase of expensive toys --

    I think a lot of people fail to realize the sheer number of uniformed and civilians attached to the DoD.... TRICARE alone -- the health care system for troops, families, and attached civilians -- has an annual budget of near 40 billion.  There are about 3 million active and reserve service members (and add to that, families of those personnel).

    I see no need for fancy laser planes that for some odd reason have parts assembled in 47 different states -- but even if the DoD completely cut its entire procurement budget, the spending necessary simply to provide subsistence living (and many families of active service members get little more than that) would still be enormous.

    I guess everyone's got their own blog now.

      people in barracks in the USA than to keep them in Iraq.  If the objective is to help the unemployed and the disabled then there are far more efficient ways to do it.
