    that may be because much of the argumentative framework of the englightenment period has been shown to be faulty. people and societies don't actually use rationality to find the best solution, and there isn't always a solution available through rational deduction. never mind that those who drove the enlightenment tended to be upper-class, or at least bougeoise.

    You are certainly right the left can't count on the englightenment, but i sure hope we have better than a 300 yr old intellectual movement on our side

      Best solution or the one societies settle on?  there's a difference.  

      The solutions available through rational deduction aren't often politically  feasible.

      The enlightenment was the product of upper class and bourgeois minds because the lower classes didn't have the educational level and connections to be taken seriously by  anyone.  We wouldn't have heard of their ideas.   Further, just because a rich person says something doesn't necessarily mean it isn't true.
