  •  I had Song of Solomon for my Old Testament (12+ / 0-)

    reading -- none of the racy parts though; it was the "Many waters cannot quench love" section. (Gave my nephew-in-law a bit of a panic though -- he feared the worst when he heard he was doing the reading, as he's the reserved type...nice guy but how the hell he ended up in OUR family still amazes me.)

    I always read the book of Ruth as a story of loyalty in the face of adversity, as well as a foretaste of the welcoming in of non-Jews into the followers of Jesus -- Ruth, through Boaz, actually became part of that family tree. And as one who has a far better relationship with her mother-in-law than she had with her own mother, I can understand why Ruth might have decided to stick with Naomi.
