and farm labor isn't the best paying job in the world & is hard as hell besides.  However, it worked very well for a majority of "the people" - well enough that it fed the "free world" during WWII, and the defeated AXIS countries as well afterwards.  What the current system does, is designed to do, is funnel money into the corporatocrasy at the expense of everybody else.  It does it's job very well.  But to get rid of, or at least reduce, hunger we need to get back to it.

Of course most American kids don't want to be farmers.  The anti-small farmer propaganda is a very successful variant of the rest of the bilge corporate elitists have been handing out forever.  It's right up there with the disrespect for blue-collar jobs.  If it requires physical labor, it's "beneath" you crap.  But we still need to get back to it for many reasons - ending hunger is one of them, saving the planet (environmental issues) is another.

    •  I believe you are confusing romanticism with (0+ / 0-)

history, and idealism with science, technology and practical solutions. And propaganda? Against being a farmer? I've known many farmers and ranchers kids and they weren't dissuaded by propaganda, but by the reality of picking a profession they enjoyed more than the work they were brought up with.

Sometimes things in the world suck, but it is not always because of a conspiracy to make them suck. It just is what it is.
