    Life Death happened.

If he was really intent on protecting the public, the environment, and his legacy, Salazar would be setting up a consultancy, and he'd be tapping someone like Tom Udall for the post.

And Birnbaum would be shopping her resume' around to whichever oil giants aren't about to collapse from their liabilities.

fires people that fast. Time will tell if he learns and improves the agency.

Life and death aren't separate. I don't minimize the deaths of creatures, ecosystems and livelihoods of people who rely on the Gulf as fisherman or in the tourist trade.  I also don't misrepresent how decisions get made or ignore the facts of agency capture that tend to be resistant to even determined efforts to improve enforcement.  I am aware of outside influence of elected officials, executive and legislative on the ability of agencies to enforce even when they want to.

I believe we need to state the real beefs, make the best arguments, and not distract with accusations that ring false.  Obama didn't make the waiver decision in all probability, and no evidence existed in the article or quotes in it that he was involved in any way.  He did fail to change rules, and based his drilling policy on lies, either knowingly or unknowingly.  Blame him for what he did.  Making up bs claims draws away from the credibilty of the rest of the story.
