    You have Expert A, who has no reason to testify in Case B. He didn't witness anything. He's not a party to the case. He does, however have significant expertise which he has developed in his professional life.

    Why shouldn't he paid to come give his testimony? Why would he come to give his testimony, if he's not going to be paid? If he's not going to be compensated, he's going to go to his day job and earn a living -- and somebody's case is going to be fucked (either plaintiff or defendant, whichever needs the testimony of Expert A to prove the point).
