of course! My god, imagine you have carefully lined up thousands and thousands of little domino blocks and in comes a mus and wheezes them all over. (I think the domino count was in the millions, and the mus toppled several tens of thousands). Yeah it was shot, and yes that caused and outcry, and now the little body is on display in the dutch museum of contemporary history.

We also have beavers now (but you never will see them).

We have a flock of wild living kangaroo! Really! They escaped (there was a pet famrer who wanted to popularize their meat), and now theyre living wild in East Netherlands. Get killed by traffic.

Ah and if you are in Amsterdam, dont miss the Halsbandparkiet! (Whatever that is in England): a tropical, ex-brazilian papegaai, that has learnt to survive in European cities, and now forms large flocks. Bright green.

I adore Amsterdam.  And the papagaai... we have them in Chicago too.  We have monk parakeets originally from Argentina, and they can handle severe cold, down to -20 C.  They live in big messy nests with many individuals, and they often build their nests on electrical transformers to stay warmer in the winter.  There are probably 3,000 of them in Chicago now.

It is wonderful that you have a papagaai in Amsterdam because surely in that city's history there have been other parrots in the past. It seems somehow right for a port city with such an amazing history.
