  •  Backpacking, the best way to lose weight (8+ / 0-)

Backpacking is the best way, in my opinion, to lose weight.  I used to backpack for three weeks every year, and lost about 10 to 15 pounds in those 3 weeks.  The rest of the year I gained it back.

Since I carried all my food, and, at night, I was several days hike to the nearest ice cream, my food intake remained under control (about 2,500 kcal per day) and my energy expenditure was usually in the 4,000 to 5,000 kcal per day.  And I loved it!

Alas, I can no longer backpack.  My knees and feet won't let me.

But for you youngsters looking to lose weight, there may be no better way.

and I think it is a wonderful way to lose weight and stay fit. First almost anybody, no matter how out of shape can walk at least a few hundred yards. And two, being outside on a wonderful sunny day walking through a field/woods makes it more fun then running on a treadmill in a gym.
