backed up by data, as reported here on dkos.  That one dead rancher, killed by a white, is the only one.  Somehow, these heavily armed caravans of crazy Mexicans are avoiding shooting people, because, factually speaking, violence is not up along the border.

Not to dismiss the issue.  I do believe that ranchers along the borders are worried about leaving their ranches, etc. but more because of pilfering from the ragged poor than from heavily armed Qoran-toting drug lords.

We can have democracy in this country, or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both.

by smugglers in a similar situation. He came across the drugs and the guards opened fire.

The Bajadores are in the hills behind my house robbing the migrants and the runners alike. Do you think the poor Chiapan farmer calls the cops to report the crimes?

That's why, just recently in the long scale, the runners have started arming themselves.

That never used to be the method as the penalties are so much more severe for an armed smuggler. Now, they protect their loads all the way to town.

Heck a buddy was shot at just a few months ago while scouting for the spring Javalina hunt......
