    The people who undertake "innocent fraud," and who have these alien belief systems that he describes are products of nature. They are simply one variety of human being. What they do, like the slavers of the old South who beat their slaves, is natural for them. And these products of Natural Selection will get power and abuse it when they do. We have to design our systems on the assumption that such people exist and they will do harm when they gain power.

    James Madison knew about these men and he made it clear in Federalist No. 10, that there is only way to deal with them when they get power: we must control their "effects." And that is precisely what he and the Framers tried to do with their division of powers and their checks and balances. But those safeguards were overpowered many years ago. It's back to the drawing board for us.

    Might and Right are always fighting, in our youth it seems exciting. Right is always nearly winning, Might can hardly keep from grinning.
