    Note: I posted this in another, older sock thread but felt I should also post it here.

    Anyhow: I've only read a few of the comments, but I think the problem is that most of us commenters are not oil well technology experts, or engineers of any kind.

    We need a thread on this proposal that's solely for engineers, former oil well people, people who know oil well people, etc., so that they can analyze whether this idea could work and how to improve it without a bunch of well-meaning comments from non-technical people.

    The way to limit participation in the thread would be to use an honor system, plus to aggressively 0 out people who are posting posts that are non-technical in nature, or appear, when they do post non-technical posts, to not know what they're talking about.

      .... Like trying to corral the slick with a bunch of shrimp draggers?  If is just a matter of creating a preferred path for the oil to follow, could a series of towed nets act to draw or direct the spill to a collector, or away from a particular area?
