  •  Sorry about that. I skipped (0+ / 0-)

    over it by mistake.

That being said, I completely disagree with your hypothesis. Dressing or acting 'prep' whether it was in the 1980s or now is not an attempt to be like everyone else. It is a simple extension of the clothing that students were required to wear in preparatory schools.

Prep is not about conformity. I'm not conforming to anyone's rules when I wear my argyle socks with my suits. I'm saying that I like displaying color in a world of everyone else wearing navy suits, with a white shirt and red tie.

Maybe I should suggest that my wife stop wearing her polos with seersucker shorts. I would hate for me to come home one day to her doing drugs.

      as "preppy," too. BFD.

My comment was about the resurgence of that particular "look," in the context of the '80s. The fashion and the Reaganite cultural ethos fit each other symbiotically.

      You're entitled to your viewpoint.

    •  Seersucker shorts indicate possible addiction... (1+ / 0-)

      ...sounds preposterous? Not so much.

"Drug addiction" is not limited to "illegal drugs". Addiction to prescription drugs - pain killers, mood elevators, etc - or at least misuse of prescription drugs, has been estimated to be at least as high or higher among affluent populations when compared to illegal drug use among less affluent populations.

Dem's de facts, pretty solid public health numbers available at your googling fingertips...

Personally, 'cause I've had to move through some o' those affluent seersucker circles, I'd say that anecdotally my experience backs up the numbers.

'Course, it's not only affluent folks who wear seersucker. Fr'instance, I live in NOLA, where lotsa folks wear seersucker.

So, no offense to you and your seersucker circles intended.
