is there any information about how reliable it is? In the past, these anti-rocket defense systems haven't been that good.

Here is the comment in Haaretz:

The Americans were skeptical at first," the official continued. "But after they saw the results of the last test run they were impressed and became confident in the system's abilities." He added that the Defense Ministry has yet to decide how to allocate the funds. He stressed that it would be at least a year before a substantial number of batteries would be operational in Israel.

Read the talkbacks. The top one has an interesting twist to it. (hint: it has to do with Jews and Money...)

tremendous advance to the peace process, as Israel, would not feel the need to micro-manage the Gaza and the close by rocket launch site in the West-Bank.

Think back to the origins of the anti-ballistic missile treaty between the US and the Soviet Union, back during the heart of the Cold War. The motivation behind the treaty was that if the US and the Soviets built up anti-ballistic missile defenses, they would also vastly increase the numbers of ballistic missiles in their arsenals, to try to overwhelm the ABM defenses.  So there is a risk that implementation of a system like Iron Dome might induce rejectionist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah to purchase even more missiles from their patrons.
